Back when we first started raising goats twenty five years ago, goats were viewed as 'the poor man's cow.' We have raised goats for fun, for milk, for meat, and as a means of income. We firmly believe that the introduction of the Boer goat in the nineties turned the tables on the goat industry, making it a viable agri-business that will continue to boom for years to come. At the same time goat production remains an opportunity for anyone to take advantage of without a huge start-up expense or the need for large acreage. Raising goats is still a 'poor man's' dream come true.
We also strongly feel that goats and the Internet go hand in hand. While the Boer goat industry grows by leaps and bounds each year, marketing avenues are still in primitive stages of development. The United States imports millions of pounds of goat meat yearly, yet few individuals and businesses have met the challange to make the transition from pasture to dinner table a reality. Goat producers are selling their product in newspaper classifieds and across the web due to a lack of 'middlemen' buying their goats and then making goat meat available to retail outlets. Southern Star Boer Goats realizes the challanges goat producers face in marketing their livestock. We have created online marketing tools such as our
Goats for Sale Classifieds and
Goat Producers Directory and make them available to goat breeders, farmers, and ranchers on our
Texas Goat website.
